Demand San Diego State University Reject BDS

Under pressure from SJP, the student government at San Diego State University passed an antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) resolution on April 22. The resolution calls on SDSU to sever all ties with Israeli academic institutions, end all funding for study abroad programs in Israel, and divest from all companies that do business with the IDF.

Call on the SDSU administration to publicly reject BDS.

To the leadership of San Diego State University:

Under pressure from Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), SDSU’s Associated Students University Council (ASUC) passed an antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions resolution on April 22.

The resolution calls on SDSU to sever all ties with Israeli academic institutions, end all funding for study abroad programs in Israel, and divest from all companies that do business with the IDF.

The biased resolution is riddled with inaccuracies and deceptive assertions that are actually part of a longstanding, well-organized campaign to demonize, ostracize, and isolate Israel, the world’s only Jewish state. The resolution falsely alleges that Israel is engaged in genocide and cites organizations with demonstrable anti-Israel and antisemitic biases as a basis for cutting ties with Israel.

Boycotting Israel is not about promoting human rights or social justice. It is a thinly veiled attempt to delegitimize the Jewish state and its right to exist. By failing to reject BDS, you would be legitimizing antisemitic attitudes and emboldening those who seek to harm Jewish members of the SDSU community, as well as harm the Jewish state. Additionally, BDS activity on college campuses has been directly linked to an increase in antisemitic activity on campus and only inflames tensions in already unwelcoming environments for Jewish students.

Furthermore, endorsing the BDS movement would likely violate California’s anti-BDS law (AB 2844). In 2024, California State University system officials made it clear that CSU will not “alter existing investment policies related to Israel or the Israel-Hamas conflict.” SDSU must follow suit.

I am calling on you to stand against hate and publicly reject the antisemitic BDS campaign. Universities should be places where all students, regardless of their background or beliefs, feel safe and respected. You must ensure that the SDSU campus remains a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
